Nicaraguans proudly celebrate their official holidays, called feriados. Plan your activities around these holidays and don’t count on getting business of any kind done since most government and private offices will be closed. In fact, the whole country shuts down during Semana Santa (the week before Easter) and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Days.

Religion
Eight out of 10 Nicaraguans identify as Roman Catholic, but there is freedom of religion and other religious views are permitted. Evangelical, Baptist and Pentecostal and Seventh Day Adventists are some of the other denominations. There is even a small Jewish community.
Like most Catholic countries in Latin America, Nicaragua has its calendar of Saint’s Days or Santoral. Churches and cathedrals are found all over the country.
